Client: Canadian Diamond Council Corporation (CDC)

Project: Scoping and Scanning Study of the Canadian Diamond Industry

In 2004, SSG was awarded a contract sponsored by the Government of Canada and executed by the Canadian Diamond Council Corporation to conduct a vertical analysis of the human resource needs, issues and challenges of the diamond industry pipeline in Canada.  The scope of the study included exploration and mining, cutting and polishing, manufacturing and retail.  The scope also had international components.

Client: Canadian Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Council (COEJATC)

Project:  Research, Adapt and Develop Workplace/Essential Skills Diagnostic and Training Tools

SSG compiled a national database of assessment and training available for Essential Skills relevant to Operating Engineers in 2004.   The resulting database of assessment tools and training was incorporated into a web-based management information system that allows training managers to assess essential skills, create a gap analysis and generate a training report that provides training programs available close to the candidate’s location.

Client: Construction Sector Council

Project: National Occupational Standards for the Construction Industry -- "The Mobility Project"

SSG developed occupational standards for 29 operating engineer occupations in a multi-faceted project for the Construction Sector Council that was successfully completed in March 2005.

Client: The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC)

In 2004, SSG completed a project to research and analyze the practices of Canada’s sector councils in the development and implementation of occupational standards and certification.  The scope of this study included an inventory and analysis of occupational standards and certification resources and practices from all 30 sector councils that included the identification of best practices and recommendations for next steps.

Client: The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC)

Projects: National Occupational Standards and Certification Program Development and Updates

Collectively, the team members have developed, validated and revised over 50 national occupational standards and 35 national certification programs for the tourism industry, including the following occupations:

  • Special Events Coordinator­ 
  • Special Events Manager ­ 
  • Sales Manager ­ 
  • Foodservice Manager­ 
  • Beverage Services Manager­ 
  • Snowmobile Industry­ 
  • Heritage Interpreter­ 
  • Local Tour Guide/Tour Director/Heritage Interpreter

Project: Comparative Study of CTHRC Certification Program and Australian Training Packages

Currently underway, this project goal is to study recent changes to the Australian certification system and training packages and compare these to the CTHRC Certification Program.

Project: Comparative Study of CARIBCERT and CTHRC Certification Programs

In September 2005, SSG was contracted to prepare a comparative study of the Caribbean Hotel Association’s CARIBCERT Certification Program and the CTHRC Certification Program.  The SSG research team collected data on programs, identified commonalities and recommended next steps in the development of joint recognition between both programs. 

Project: Develop Test Items for Certified Foodservice Manager (CFM)/Beverage Services Manager (BSM)

Team members developed new test items and edited items (group edit) for the occupations.
